Lab-Grown Diamond Price and Return Policy by Retailer

As of September 2026. Prices: Rings.com Lab-Grown Diamond Price Index, US edition, data as of September 18, 2026. Policies: The Fine Print, updated October 1, 2026.

By Rodney Noriega, CEO, Rings.com

Seven retailers appear in both the Rings.com Price Index and The Fine Print. This page shows September 2026 lab-grown diamond prices and return terms in two separate tables. At 1 carat (E VS1 IGI round), the retailers shown at 1 carat had median prices from $281 to $796, and published return windows run from 30 days to 60 or more days.

Rings.com publishes dated price and buyer-protection data for jewelry retailers.

Rings.com does not sell jewelry on this site, though it did from 2024 to April 2026. Rings.com also sells jewelry directly to consumers elsewhere, including through RingsDeals.com. That selling is run separately from the Price Index and The Fine Print and has no influence over which retailers are tracked or scored, or how.

This page is not a ranking, and the two blocks below measure different things. The price block comes from the Price Index. The policy block comes from The Fine Print. They are separate datasets with separate methods. We do not combine them into a score, and we do not name a "best overall" retailer. A low price does not tell you a retailer's return policy is good, and a long return window does not tell you its prices are low.

What this page covers

Seven retailers appear in both datasets: Blue Nile, Brilliant Earth, Clean Origin, Grown Brilliance, Ritani, VRAI and With Clarity. The US Price Index tracks only these seven. With Clarity appears in the policy block only; this page does not show its prices. The Fine Print scores 20 retailers, so this page does not cover the other 13, and neither dataset covers retailers outside its own panel.

All prices are loose lab-grown stones, before any setting, as listed publicly (excluding promo codes and membership discounts).

Block 1: Price (from the Price Index, September 2026 edition)

Benchmark: E color, VS1 clarity, round brilliant, Excellent cut, IGI-certified. Each figure is the retailer's median price per carat in that weight cell, multiplied by the cell's weight (1, 1.5 or 2 carats), giving a total stone price in USD. This can differ from the raw median of listing prices by up to 2.6% this edition. A retailer is shown only where it had at least 30 qualifying listings in that weight.

Retailer 1 carat 1.5 carat 2 carat
Blue Nile Not published $1,004 $1,640
Brilliant Earth $796 $1,176 $2,756
Clean Origin Not published $395 $558
Grown Brilliance $500 $972 $1,356
Ritani $281 $381 $584

"Not published" means fewer than 30 qualifying listings in that cell.

Reference only

VRAI is shown separately as a reference point, not a comparison. VRAI uses Diamond Foundry proprietary grading and carries no IGI-certified inventory, so it does not match the benchmark. Its September 2026 figures: $1,583 at 1 carat (the median price per carat times 1; the raw median listing price in that window is $1,650; D to F colors, 1.0 to 1.09ct) and $2,145 at 1.5 carat, which is the median of actual listing prices in a 1.6 to 1.9ct window (median weight 1.75ct, not 1.5ct). Its 2 carat figure is not published (fewer than 30 listings). Do not compare VRAI's numbers with the rows above.

Prices change monthly and vary by cell. In September, for example, Brilliant Earth's 1.5 carat median fell 32% from August while its 1 carat median moved -7% and its 2 carat median +1%. The next edition is due the week of October 26, 2026.

Block 2: Return and fee policies (from The Fine Print, updated October 1, 2026)

These are the policy fields from The Fine Print that matter for a ready-made or loose-stone purchase. Wording is the Fine Print's own, scoped to "on the pages checked."

Retailer Return window Restocking fee Shipping insurance
Blue Nile 30 days from shipment date No fee stated Fully insured in transit
Brilliant Earth † 30 days, standard exclusions Conditional fee: depends on order type Retailer bears all transit loss
Clean Origin † 60+ days, some exclusions Conditional fee: depends on order type Fully insured in transit
Grown Brilliance † 30 days from shipment date No fee stated Insurance not confirmed
Ritani ‡ 30 days, standard exclusions No fee stated Fully insured in transit
VRAI 30 days from purchase date Fee applies in most cases Fully insured in transit
With Clarity 30 days, standard exclusions Conditional fee: depends on order type Retailer bears all transit loss

† The Fine Print could not load this retailer's pages for direct verification in September 2026, so its entry rests on the earlier May 25, 2026 collection date.

‡ Ritani's own pages disagree on when the 30 days start: its Returns and Exchanges page says shipment, while its FAQ and Terms say delivery. The Fine Print scored the delivery reading.

"No fee stated" means it does not appear on the retailer's published policy pages, FAQs or terms of service as of the collection date, not that no such fee could exist in any form. Return terms for custom or made-to-order items can differ from the standard return policy. See our companion page on custom ring deposits if you are ordering a custom ring.

How to use both blocks

  1. Fix the stone first. Compare prices only for the same weight and grade. The benchmark is E VS1 round Excellent IGI, so a different color, clarity or cut is a different price.
  2. Check the return window and the clock. Know whether the days count from purchase, shipment or delivery, and what the exclusions are.
  3. Ask about fees. If a restocking fee is "conditional," ask in writing what triggers it before you order.
  4. Confirm current terms in writing. Prices and policies change. The Price Index updates monthly, and policy pages can change between Fine Print updates.

Which numbers not to mix

The Price Index benchmark above (E VS1 round Excellent IGI) is a different statistic from the pooled medians on Rings.com's carat and shape pages, which cover all colors and clarities. Do not compare them with each other. See lab-grown diamond price comparison: medians by carat and shape for the pooled view.

How we got these numbers

The Price Index analyzed 251,098 lab-grown diamond listings from seven U.S. online retailers collected on September 17, 2026, and publishes a figure only where a retailer had at least 30 qualifying listings. Read the full Price Index methodology and the retailer selection policy. The Fine Print scores 20 retailers on nine buyer protection fields from public policy pages, with data collected May 25, 2026, a full policy re-check on September 19 and further re-scores on September 30, 2026. Rings.com states it receives no compensation from the retailers included in either dataset for inclusion or ranking, and no retailer has any editorial control over the methodology or results.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I compare lab-grown diamond prices and return policies by retailer?

This page shows prices for six of the seven retailers (With Clarity prices are not reproduced here) and policies for all seven: median prices from the Rings.com Price Index and published return windows, restocking fees and shipping insurance from The Fine Print. The two are separate datasets and are not combined into a score.

How much does a 1 carat lab-grown diamond cost by retailer?

In the September 2026 Price Index, retailer median prices (median price per carat times 1 carat) for a 1 carat E VS1 IGI round lab-grown diamond were $796 at Brilliant Earth, $500 at Grown Brilliance and $281 at Ritani. Blue Nile and Clean Origin did not have enough 1 carat listings to publish. These are loose stone prices before any setting.

What is the return window for lab-grown diamonds at these retailers?

Per The Fine Print, six of the seven publish a 30-day window, counted from shipment at Blue Nile and Grown Brilliance, from purchase at VRAI, and with standard exclusions at Brilliant Earth, Ritani and With Clarity. Clean Origin publishes 60 or more days with some exclusions. Check how the days are counted before you buy.

Do lab-grown diamond retailers charge restocking fees?

It varies. Per The Fine Print, no fee is stated at Blue Nile, Grown Brilliance and Ritani. A conditional fee that depends on order type applies at Brilliant Earth, Clean Origin and With Clarity, and a fee applies in most cases at VRAI.

Does the cheapest retailer have the best return policy?

Not necessarily, and this page does not say either way. Price and policy are measured separately, and a lower price at one retailer says nothing about its return terms.

Why is VRAI not compared with the other retailers on price?

VRAI uses Diamond Foundry proprietary grading and carries no IGI-certified inventory, so it does not match the E VS1 IGI benchmark. It appears as a separate reference point.
